Job Description
Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., a leading mid-tier investment bank, is currently seeking an equity research associate to support our Medical Devices Equity Research franchise. The position is located in New York City.
The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial (i.e. self-starter), possess one or two years of experience in equity research or a related field with company modeling and exposure to the financial markets. Proven analytical skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and excellent written communication skills are required. A healthcare background either through a prior Wall Street position or direct experience is a plus but is not a requirement.
The research associate will work in conjunction with and support the senior research analyst on all aspects of developing the research product. Key responsibilities for this position at the start include: preparing company-specific and industry-wide research reports and presentations; collecting, analyzing and interpreting information from a range of data sources, including scientific literature, medical conferences, physician interviews; building and maintaining company and industry models.
We look for people who possess, or have the potential to possess, the following characteristics:
- Strong writing and analytical skills. Associates are responsible for writing and producing equity research reports, company initiations, and presentations—often under very tight time constraints;
- Strong financial modeling, accounting, valuation, and quantitative skills. Associates are responsible for building and maintaining integrated models and for organizing and maintaining industry data—attention to detail is critical;
- A passion for the stock market, and equity research. It is highly advantageous to have prior exposure to the financial markets and equity research, as well as the day-to-day responsibilities of an equity research associate;
- Strong communication skills. As time progresses, associates will interact with internal sales and trading and external clients; responsiveness and professionalism is important;
- An ability to take risks and think outside the box and an ability to handle high-pressure situations;
- Strong work ethic. An ability to perform duties under minimal supervision and become fully-licensed (FINRA SIE/63/86/87) within 6-12 months after starting if not already licensed;
- The position requires fluency in Excel/Word/Outlook; knowledge of Bloomberg and FactSet are a bonus.
